A 10-year-old girl was recently rushed to the hospital after being attacked by an unregistered XL bully in Belvedere, Balby, Doncaster. The incident occurred in the garden of a house when the dog aggressively dragged the child’s head from side to side and bit her neck, causing serious injuries. Fortunately, the bleeding was brought under control, and the child’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
In the UK, owners of XL bullys are required by law to register their dogs and follow strict rules since the breed was banned in February. As a result of the attack, a 37-year-old woman was arrested for possession of a banned breed of dog, allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control, and child neglect. Additionally, two teenagers aged 13 and 15 were arrested for similar charges.
Chief Inspector Emma Cheney emphasized the importance of responsibility in pet ownership, stating that this incident could have been fatal. She urged owners to understand their dogs, their behavior, and take necessary precautions to keep everyone safe. South Yorkshire Police also advised dog owners to walk their pets on a lead in public areas, stick to designated footpaths, supervise the animal at all times, and be mindful that not everyone is comfortable around dogs.
This incident is not isolated, as a woman in her 30s tragically died after being attacked by a pet dog in Coventry. These cases emphasize the need for responsible pet ownership and the potential dangers that can arise when precautions are not taken.
Responsible pet ownership is crucial to ensuring the safety of both the pet owners and the general public. It is essential for dog owners to comply with laws and regulations, understand their dog’s behavior, and take necessary precautions to prevent any harm. By being responsible pet owners, tragedies like these can be avoided, and both humans and animals can coexist harmoniously.
