The Quad Meeting in Tokyo

The foreign ministers from Australia, India, Japan, and the United States, known as the “Quad,” convened in Tokyo to engage in critical discussions regarding maritime security and initiatives to bolster cyber defenses. This meeting comes following security dialogues between Tokyo and Washington where China was identified as the “greatest strategic challenge” in the region.

During the Quad talks, the ministers emphasized the importance of recognizing the evolving security landscape in the Indo-Pacific region. Counterbalancing China’s Influence

Following the Quad meeting in Tokyo, the U.S. officials will hold security talks with another Asian ally, the Philippines, as part of the Biden administration’s strategy to counter China’s growing assertiveness. During a meeting with his Chinese counterpart in Laos, the U.S. reiterated its commitment to maintaining a “free and open Indo-Pacific” in collaboration with its partners.
