The Google Pixel 9 series is rumored to be getting a new weather app, with reports suggesting that it will also be available for other Pixel devices. The app has been discovered in an unofficial capacity as an Android Package Kit (APK) that can be sideloaded onto current Pixel smartphones. One of the key highlights of the app is its integration of artificial intelligence (AI) features, as revealed through an APK teardown.
According to reports, the Weather app will offer a range of features commonly found in other weather apps, including current conditions, feels like temperature, UV index, visibility, wind speed, humidity, sunrise and sunset times, atmospheric pressure, and high/low temperatures. Additionally, users can access hourly and 10-day forecasts through intuitive carousels. The user interface of the app is said to align with Google’s Material You design language, allowing for customization by moving elements around to prioritize information based on individual preferences.
AI-Powered Features
During the aforementioned APK teardown, references to an AI-powered feature called “AI Weather Summaries” were found. While details about this feature are scarce, the name implies that it will provide users with personalized weather summaries for specific time periods and locations. The app may also include other AI-driven functionalities such as precipitation notifications and accurate weather forecasts.
While the Google Weather app is expected to be officially launched with the Pixel 9 series, tech enthusiasts have already managed to install it on older Pixel devices and other smartphones running on Android 14. However, since the app is not yet officially available, users may encounter frequent crashes and performance issues. For example, changing the temperature unit on a device was found to cause the app to become unresponsive, indicating that further optimization may be needed before a stable release.
The upcoming Google Pixel Weather app promises to deliver a comprehensive weather experience with AI-powered features and a customizable interface. As it continues to be developed and refined, users can look forward to accessing accurate forecasts and real-time weather information on their Pixel devices. Despite potential performance challenges in its current state, the app holds significant potential to enhance the overall user experience for Pixel smartphone owners.
