Automaker Stellantis recently announced plans to indefinitely lay off up to 2,450 U.S. factory workers as it discontinues production of the older version of its Ram 1500 pickup truck in Michigan. The Ram 1500 Classic has been a popular choice for entry-level buyers and fleet customers, but with the introduction of a new generation of the Ram 1500 in 2018, the company has made the decision to end production of the older model. The Warren Truck Assembly Plant, where the Ram 1500 Classic is currently being produced, is expected to see the start of layoffs as soon as October.
