Barbara Res, the Trump Organization’s former executive vice president of construction and development, recently disputed former President Donald Trump’s account of riding with former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown in a helicopter that had to make an emergency landing in the 1990s. According to Res, the incident actually took place while they were working on a large project in California, involving various local and state politicians, such as former California state Sen. Nate Holden. This contradicts Trump’s version of events, where he claimed to have been with Brown during the emergency landing.
In response to the discrepancy between Trump’s story and Res’s account, it was suggested that Trump may have confused the identities of Brown and Holden. Res mentioned that given the passage of 30 years since the incident, it wouldn’t be surprising if Trump had mixed them up in his memory. It appears that the former president may have been more eager to associate himself with influential figures like Brown, regardless of the actual details of the helicopter ride.
After Trump’s press conference where he recounted the helicopter incident, Brown refuted the story by denying ever being on a helicopter with Trump. Instead, he speculated that Trump may have mistaken him for someone else, particularly assuming that the individual in question was Black. On the other hand, Holden came forward to confirm that he was actually the person who flew in the helicopter with Trump, along with several others, to visit Trump’s new Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City.
Media Coverage and Trump’s Defense
Following the conflicting reports from Res, Brown, and Holden, the media picked up on the discrepancies in Trump’s story. Despite being called out for inaccuracy, Trump responded by mentioning the existence of ‘Logs,’ Maintenance Records, and Witnesses to support his version of events. He also alluded to a story titled ‘Willie and Me.’ However, the Trump campaign did not provide any further comment on the matter when approached for clarification.
The differing recollections of the individuals involved in the supposed helicopter incident with Trump raise questions about the accuracy of his anecdotes. Whether it was a genuine mistake or a deliberate embellishment on Trump’s part, the conflicting testimonies add to the complexity of understanding the truth behind the story. In the end, it remains uncertain whether the helicopter ride with Brown was a figment of Trump’s imagination or a misremembered episode from his past.
