The Hottest Day of the Year So Far in the UK

Today, temperatures in some parts of the UK could reach as high as 35C, making it the hottest day of the year. Warm European air is responsible for the sudden rise in temperatures across the country with the Met Office predicting highs of 34C to 35C.

According to the Met Office forecaster Craig Snell, the weather will come accompanied by a lot of humidity, making it quite uncomfortable, particularly in central eastern England. While other areas will also experience warm and humid conditions, the hottest weather is forecasted to be in central eastern England.

Weather Warnings

Despite the soaring temperatures, the Met Office has issued two yellow weather warnings for thunderstorms in parts of northern England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. London, East Anglia, and the Home Counties are expected to experience the warmest weather, with temperatures reaching 33C in London, 26C in Manchester, and 21C in Edinburgh.

Last week, forecasters suggested that remnants of Storm Debby from the US could impact the UK’s weather, leading to hotter conditions. A yellow heat health alert is in place for several regions until Wednesday morning, with recommendations to keep curtains closed during the hottest part of the day and drink plenty of water.

Not all parts of the UK will experience the soaring temperatures, as two separate warnings for storms have been issued. Drivers are advised to expect wet roads and some closures due to a combination of frequent lightning, heavy rain, hail, and strong winds. The warnings are in place until Monday afternoon and early morning.

Temperatures are expected to cool down by Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing relief from the heatwave conditions. Despite the high temperatures, the Met Office clarified that it does not classify as a heatwave, as specific thresholds need to be met over three consecutive days for it to be considered one.

The UK is bracing for the hottest day of the year so far, with record high temperatures expected in many parts of the country. While some regions will experience sizzling heat, others will be faced with stormy conditions. It is crucial for individuals to stay hydrated, stay cool, and take necessary precautions during this period of extreme weather.
