WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature that will allow users to block messages from unknown accounts. This feature, once implemented, will enhance the performance of the app and also ensure the security of users’ accounts. According to details spotted by a feature tracker, WABetaInfo, a new toggle for blocking unknown account messages has been introduced in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.17.24 version. This feature is expected to be located under the Privacy > Advanced menu in the settings app.
The leaked description of the feature suggests that WhatsApp will automatically block messages from unknown accounts if they exceed a certain volume. This proactive approach is aimed at safeguarding users’ accounts while maintaining the smooth functioning of the app on their smartphones. It is important to note that even with this feature enabled, some messages from unknown senders may still get through. This is in contrast to Signal, which by default restricts messages from unknown accounts and prompts users to either Accept, Block, or Report a conversation initiated by an unidentified user.
In addition to the new message blocking feature, WhatsApp has also introduced the ability to react to status updates with a heart emoji. This functionality, similar to the reaction feature on Facebook and Instagram, allows users to quickly express their feelings towards photo, video, and text stories uploaded by other users. After updating to the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android 2.24.17.21, users should be able to see a heart icon at the bottom right corner of the screen next to the reply bar.
While this feature is a welcome addition to the platform, it may not be immediately available to all users as the rollout seems to be happening gradually. Even after updating to the latest beta version, some users have reported being unable to access the new reaction feature. According to WABetaInfo, users will also be able to see a list of contacts that have reacted to their story, similar to the functionality on Instagram.
The new message blocking feature and status update reactions are anticipated to roll out to users on iOS and Android with an upcoming version of the WhatsApp app. This update is set to bring more control and interactivity to the platform, allowing users to manage messages from unknown senders more effectively and engage with status updates in a fun and expressive manner.
WhatsApp continues to innovate and enhance the user experience with new features aimed at improving security and engagement on the platform. The introduction of the message blocking feature and status update reactions signify the platform’s commitment to providing a safe and interactive messaging environment for its users. Stay tuned for the upcoming app update to try out these exciting new features on WhatsApp.
