The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 was recently launched at the Galaxy Unpacked event, boasting impressive features such as a foldable 7.6-inch primary display and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. However, users have started reporting issues with paint peeling off the body of the device, raising concerns about its build quality.
Several users on Reddit have shared images of their new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 handsets with paint peeling off in small sections, particularly near the power button and the top left corner of the rear panel. Samsung has acknowledged this issue and attributed it to the use of incompatible third-party accessories, such as high-speed chargers that are not properly grounded.
Cause of the Issue
The official Samsung support page explains that the paint peeling may be a result of current leakage from third-party chargers affecting the anodisation of the phone. Anodisation is a process that provides a decorative, durable, and corrosion-resistant finish to the metal body of the handset. Additionally, the use of electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) massagers close to the phone can also lead to paint delamination.
Samsung recommends keeping the phone away from the body while using EMS products and using only authentic Samsung chargers designed for the specific device. The company emphasizes the importance of using high-quality chargers that adhere to the Qi standard to avoid any damage to the phone’s paint. It is worth noting that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 does not ship with a charger in the box, requiring users to purchase the accessory separately.
Pricing and Availability
In India, the 25W adaptor for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 is priced at Rs. 1,699, while the USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable costs Rs. 599. The phone itself is available in three colour options – Navy, Pink, and Silver Shadow, with prices starting at Rs. 1,64,999 for the base model. Higher storage variants are also available at higher price points, making the device accessible for users with different budget considerations.
The issue of paint peeling on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 highlights the importance of using genuine accessories and chargers to maintain the device’s build quality. By following Samsung’s recommendations and avoiding incompatible third-party products, users can ensure a longer lifespan for their foldable smartphone. As technology continues to evolve, manufacturers and consumers must work together to address and resolve any potential issues that may arise with new devices.
