Why Quentin Tarantino Doesn’t Want to Watch Toy Story 5

Quentin Tarantino, renowned director and filmmaker, recently voiced his opinions about the difficulties of wrapping up a trilogy in a satisfying manner for the audience. During an episode of the comedy podcast Club Random with Bill Maher, Tarantino expressed his love for the initial Toy Story trilogy and explained that he had no desire to view any subsequent films in the franchise.

Tarantino compared the success of the Toy Story trilogy to that of the Dollars Trilogy, consisting of “A Fistful of Dollars,” “For a Few Dollars More,” and “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.” He highlighted the importance of having a consistent vision from one director, pointing to filmmaker Sergio Leone’s guiding hand through all three films in the Dollars Trilogy. According to Tarantino, this singular vision is what sets these trilogies apart from others.

The director went on to mention that many film series struggle to “stick the landing” with their final installment, citing the Mad Max films as an example. However, he praised the Toy Story trilogy for its ability to deliver a satisfying conclusion with the third movie. Tarantino described “Toy Story 3” as one of the best movies he has ever seen, emphasizing its impact as a conclusion to the story.

Despite the critical acclaim and success of “Toy Story 3,” Tarantino expressed his lack of interest in watching the fourth and upcoming fifth installment in the series. He emphasized that the third movie ended the story perfectly, leaving no desire for him to see any more sequels. This decision reflects his belief that some stories are best left untouched once they have reached a satisfactory conclusion.

While Tarantino may not be eager to watch “Toy Story 5,” it is worth noting that the film is currently in development. Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed at this year’s D23 Expo that Pixar Animation stalwart Andrew Stanton, the original film’s director and a two-time Oscar winner, would return to helm the fifth installment. Despite Tarantino’s reservations, the Toy Story franchise continues to evolve and captivate audiences worldwide.
